I had a chance to speak with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez on this morning’s edition of Democracy Now. We discussed my piece on ProPublica about new government documents related to the early days of the rescue and recovery operation at ground zero in 2001 and how in some instances government officials, in Washington and in New York , misrepresented or concealed important information about the health risks associated with exposure to the dust from the collapsed trade center towers. Their actions may have unnecessarily exposed more people to the contaminants that have since been associated with a range of illnesses. Dr. Phil Landrigan of Mount Sinai Medical Center, where more than 25,000 responders have been screened, told me that the misleading information “undoubtedly contributed and will continue to contribute to sickness in the rescue and recovery workers and in the citizens of Lower Manhattan.”

A really important aspect of the ProPublic project is that you can actually see and review all the documents that I read for the piece by going to the ProPublic website, or clicking the link to those documents embedded in my piece. I encourage you to do it.
